Timber Creek High School students will have a different schedule for classes for the 2015-16 school year.
Keller ISD is moving high schools to a hybrid block schedule that will include 5 periods a day, but allow students to take 8 total classes each semester.
Here’s how it works.
First period will start at 8:30 a.m. and run until 9:20 a.m. every day. This 50 minute period will happen Monday through Friday and allow students in those classes to see their instructor every day of the school week. The fifth period of each day begins at 2:50 p.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m. This 50 minute period is similar to the first period, in that students will attend these classes each day of the school week.
The second, third, and fourth periods of each day will alternate between “A” and “B” days. Students will attend a set of classes on “A” days and another set of classes on “B” days. For example, a student enrolled in Algebra and Biology may have Algebra on “A” days during second period and have Biology on “B” days during second period.
The second and fourth blocked periods will run for 95 minutes (1 hour, 35 minutes) on each cycle day. Each blocked period will have instruction twice a week one week, and three times a week the next week.
Times for the second period run from 9:25 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day and fourth period runs from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
The third period is scheduled to run from 11:05 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. each day, creating a total of 125 minutes (2 hours and 5 minutes) for the period. However, this longer period is broken up by 30 minute student lunches that will be staggered throughout the period. Therefore, instruction time in each class is still 95 minutes.
Lunches are currently scheduled for 11:05 to 11:35 a.m., 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m., 12:05 to 12:35 p.m., and finally 12:35 to 1:10 p.m.
Students will have 5 minutes to move between periods each day, an increase from the 4 minute passing period students faced this year.
As we continue to collect more information about the schedule, we will update this story. However, these are currently the details that have been confirmed by administrators.
