The Timber Creek soccer season is right around the corner and the girls soccer team is ready to go all the way to playoffs.
Coach Mike King believes that “cleverness” has to do with our success on and off the field. King has had 20+ years of experience in coaching soccer in college. He was on the road to be a physical therapist, but his calling for coaching came and he got his degree in physical education to coach the game he loves so much.
“The most fulfilling thing about coaching is watching these 14-year-olds come in as freshmen and learn to be strong minded, independent young women who can go on in college or what they decide to do with their lives and be confident in everything they do,” King said.
Between the freshman, JV and varsity there are 60 players – 20 per team. The starters for each team have not been decided. Coach King said coaching the number of students on the girls soccer team is not always easy.
”Having varsity and junior varsity is difficult with the number of players, but it can be done,’’ King said.
Coach King and his players hold the playoffs not as a goal but an expectation, after having made it five times before.
“Once you get there, you have to advance eight to nine games in a row which is definitely difficult but very possible,” King said.
