Timber Creek will be holding a competition for Sodexo, the provider for cafeteria food. Fifth grade students had to submit a healthy breakfast recipe by Jan. 15, and were selected to compete here at Timber Creek. The final round will be held on March 9.
Students will be paired up with a kitchen staff member to make their dish and ensure that no one gets hurt, but this is all about the student’s skill and ability. TCHS culinary students will be around to answer questions, but they will not be able to help any of the students.
“I think it’s important for future chefs to get this kind of exposure,” said Mrs. Wheeler, culinary teacher and one of the judges for the competition. “It gets them thinking about a future career in the culinary field.”
Students will be competing to qualify for Nationals. Local press will be invited and anyone is welcome to come and taste the dishes at a reception event held on the day of the competition.
