This past weekend, Timber Creek Theatre’s UIL One-Act play, “Silent Sky,” advanced at the bi-district contest to the next round of the competition.
Not only is Timber Creek the first school in North Texas to produce this play, this is the first ever time that Timber Creek Theatre has advanced to area.
Cast and crew of “Silent Sky” also walked away with numerous other awards at last weekends competition. Both Rylee Jones and Caroline Norton won the All-Star Cast Members award. Austin Klopfenstein was awarded Honorable Mention All-Star Cast and Haley Price was recognized as an Outstanding Technician. They compete next in the Area Contest at Colony High School on April 9, 2016. The contest begins at noon and Timber Creek competes at 12:50 p.m. Admission is $10 for anyone who wishes to attend.
“Silent Sky” will hold a public performance in the Fine Arts Center on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
The play is based on the story of a real-life 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, who seeks to find a woman’s place in society during a time of vast scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were ultimately disregarded until men took credit for them.
In addition to this years One-Act play, Timber Creek Theatre department was set to put on a fourth show toward the end of this year. However, according to Theatre Director Blake Wilson, the fourth show is “being postponed until next academic school year.” The original dates set aside for that show will be used instead for final class projects and in class activities.
