This post is our 1,000th article.
Since Aug. 3, 2014, the Talon has been available to give Timber Creek students, teachers, parents and the community news and information about the things happening around the school.
We’ve been there for state championships, national awards, over 270 TCTV productions, and a dozen times you’ve needed to know everything about a topic.
Our writers have won awards in UIL Journalism competitions, had writing featured in the award-winning The Creek yearbook, been placed in magazines, and been important sources for news from the field.
This year, we’ve grown exponentially, going from seeing an average of 2,000 users a month reading Talon to our now-common over 6,000 users per month. Since the start of Talon, readers have viewed over 307,000 pages including photos, stories, announcements and more.
Even better, we’ve expanded the ways we showcase student journalism by installing new information screens, broadcasting live sporting events, and becoming the official Twitter account for Timber Creek High School.
For the coming 2016-17 school year, viewers can expect more live sports and sports reporting, additional creative projects like our Arts and Literature Magazine, continued in-depth coverage about TCHS news, and even more students showing their skills in reporting, anchoring, writing, editing, photography and more.
As students in the Audio and Video Production classes move to Keller’s new Center for Advanced Learning (K-CAL), Timber Creek’s Broadcasting students will take over as producers of the TCTV morning announcements in 2016-17.
For all the growth, viewers, and projects we’ve undertaken, we still hold core to the beliefs on our mission statement below.
Thank you for joining us on these first 1,000 posts. Here’s to 1,000 more.
