Timber Creek students paraded the streets in front of the home of Hadley Davis, a four year old girl with liver cancer, as she headed home for the big reveal of her princess room makeover. They gathered with those from Trinity Springs Middle School to help someone in need.

The organization, called Sunshine Spaces, is a charity started by Joshua and Erica Jones to brighten the lives of children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses. Sunshine Spaces sends the child and their family to a hotel for the weekend while they decorate and fix up the family’s home. For the Davis family, the organization gave Hadley a princess themed bedroom, her brother an Xbox themed bedroom, and for the family as a whole, they fixed things the family wasn’t able to fix themselves, such as the fence and the bathroom sink.

Hadley and her family were set to return to their home that Sunday, Aug. 28. Sunshine Spaces was to have members of their organization parading the street in front of her house, but in order to bring out a bigger crowd, they contacted Jason Cornelius from Trinity Springs Middle School and asked that his group, the TSMS PALS, join them. The PALS agreed and also contacted members of the TSMS band while Cornelius contacted former PALS as well as the Timber Creek band, cheerleaders, and Sky Dancers. With drum lines from each school, almost twenty Sky Dancers, around ten cheerleaders, and a number of PALS, the streets were full.

“We were changing up the words to band songs, like instead of saying Timber Creek or Falcon, we said or spelled her name,” said Sky Dancer Lily Thorpe. “It was really nice to get out there and support her in all she’s doing. We can make such a huge impact on our community. None of us had to be there, but there were so many supporters from Timber Creek; it just shows how much we can give back.”

The band played fight songs while the dancers and cheerleaders clapped along. Hadley and her family drove home to find the parade — and to Hadley’s surprise, two dress up princesses.

Sky Dancers Hannah Kocis added, “Hadley was overjoyed, and her family was very grateful.”

But the time spent was enjoyed by not just the family, but by Timber Creek and Trinity Springs participants alike.

“We usually don’t get a chance to talk to other groups like band or cheer at football games,” said Sky Dancer Avery Bruner, “but with this we were all in it together and I personally know some people who have battled with cancer, and I know how difficult of a thing it is to go through, and I know that something like this would be very important to Hadley.”

“The one hour we spent could make her entire week,” Karla Adrian-Caceres, leader of the Saxophone section in TCHS band, said, “The little things can mean so much to someone.”
