Keller ISD’s first rugby club is almost ready to get started. Timber Creek senior Joshua Foster founded the club because he has grown up not only watching, but also playing the sport.
When asked, Foster said he was interested in seeing the sport grow in “an athletically rich area such as Fort Worth and Keller,” and he also wants to “make sure the sport gets the recognition and respect it deserves.”
The club requires no previous experience, but it is great for any athlete who wants to sharpen their skills in any other sport, as well as for the non-athlete who is just looking to have some extra fun. Rugby is a rigorous, competitive sport that teaches teamwork skills as well as strength and power. As an internationally recognized sport, colleges are now beginning to offer rugby scholarships to the athletes that play. Rugby is the father of football, with only a slight difference of rules and a lack of padding. The season begins right after football season ends, so if you are a football player looking to stay in shape during the off-season, consider joining rugby club.
The club is sponsored by Coach Miller and coached by Shon Husband. Registration forms can be picked up in Coach Millers room, N223. Joining the club is simple: contact Coach Miller at Jake.Miller@kellerisd.net and tell him you are interested in joining rugby. Once enough members have joined, a meeting will be held where any additional paperwork and information will be given out.
Information on the club and meetings will be published as it becomes available.
