The TCHS Baseball program hosts the eighth annual 50 inning fundraiser game on Saturday, Feb. 18 to raise funds for the team that will go towards the needs of the players and facilities. 100% of all donations will go towards the baseball program. This year will also hold a silent auction. Funds are being collected though the players garnering for pledges, Head Coach Derek Watson elaborates on the financial goal for this year.
“Our goal each year is $300.00 per player. We have yet to reach that goal, but it has been a very successful fundraiser in more ways than just financial.”
This year the veteran players will get to play along side as well as against each other with the incoming 9th grade players. If players have the ability to get even just $1 per inning that would be $50 towards the baseball program. However, this year the goal is for each player to reach $300.
“But at the end of the day, we all come together with a singular goal to improve our baseball program.”
While a 50 inning game seems crazy to most, many schools have various forms of marathon games. The idea has been around for years now, but as for the TC baseball program the success of the event is “a direct reflection of the effort and dedication of our parents and players. ” Said Watson
While the fundraiser is promoted as a 50 inning game, it will be closer to a 80 inning game. The fundraiser game has modified rules in order to play faster.
“We start the first games at 9:00 a.m. and usually finish around 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Come on out and enjoy some baseball early in our season!” Watson encourages.
Entry to the fundraiser is free and is held at the TCHS baseball fields.
