The Varsity Girls’ Golf team brought home second place at the 3-6A Tournament, which was held on April 4 and 5 at the Canyon West Golf Course in Wetherford, Texas.
This will be the first time the Timber Creek Golf Team is able to qualify for a regional tournament as a team. The Regional tournament will take place in Arlington, Texas at the Rolling Hills golf course on April 25 and 26.
“Some of the best golf teams in the state come out of this region,” said Head Golf Coach, Russell Fuqua, “This is a great opportunity for our golfers to experience golf with competitors of this caliber. We will go out each day and play shot by shot, hole by hole, and see how it all turns out. ”
The girls varsity players that placed at the 3-6A tournament are Cally Hodges, Victoria Garcia, Sydney Cundiff, Vanessa Nguyen and Lauren Wallace. Fuqua touched on his feeling about the girls tournament performance.
“Our girls played very determined golf that day, pushing through the adverse conditions, and keeping their confidence up. We are very proud of the girl’s efforts, improvements, and accomplishments this year,” said Fuqua.
Coach Blake Arnold was also welcomed to the team in the 2016-17 school year and described as a source of the team’s improvement.
“He comes to us with many years of golf experience as a player and teaching pro that has benefited the golf team immensely,” Fuqua said admiringly.
