Timber Creek has added portable buildings to further accommodate students and teachers. With over 3,000 students, space is tight in the already massive school. Last school year, a plan was set in motion to bring about more classrooms.
Part of the reason why administration decided to bring the portables along for the 2017-18 school year, is to decrease the number of floating teachers and make it easier on the staff. There will be five teachers who make their home in the portable buildings, as well as four floating teachers to use four of the portables. The teachers who will permanently be in the portable buildings are Christopher Simmons (social studies), Santos Casillas (spanish) Stephen Ritchie (social studies), Timothy Thomas (social studies) and Damian Van Winkle (social studies). The floating teachers are Ian Henley (science), Daniel Rincon (CTE), Donald Havens (english) and Robert Barker (science).
The portables will mostly be used for upperclassmen, specifically seniors.
The portables will be available two weeks into the 2017-18 school year. The process was pushed back because of the rain. The portables will be sitting out by the senior lot and the moving company could not move the portables onto the grass while it was wet. Once the portables are set up, the buildings will be hooked up with the proper faculties. The city of Fort Worth will have to come in to inspect the buildings, and once approved, then Timber Creek can hook the buildings up to data drops and Wi-Fi. There will not be any bathrooms, but students will have access to the restrooms inside the main building.
While the portables are being equipped for the school year, the classes will take place in the gym for the first two weeks of the 2017-18 school year.
