The Sky Dancers and Violet Belles are under new direction this year. Last year, Lindsay Harris was the director of the Violet Belles and the assistant director of the Sky Dancers. This year, she has taken the role as head director of the Sky Dancers.
With Rebecca Rose as a new assistant principal this year, and Harris now the director of the Sky Dancers, the Violet Belles needed a new director. Ms. Rose already had someone in mind, Kim Cardwell, who used to be Ms. Rose’s teacher. Cardwell has been teaching dance for 27 years and now is teaching the dance classes this year, as well as directing the Violet Belles.
“It’s going really well, [The Violet Belles] work so hard and I really impressed with their work ethic,” Cardwell said.
Cardwell has worked at Eisenhower High School, Colleyville Heritage High School, Southlake Carroll High School, Byron Nelson High School, and now is joining the staff at Timber Creek.
“The transition has felt seamless.” Cardwell said. “I feel like everyone is so welcoming, it’s one of the things that really stood out to me. The students are really welcoming and so are the staff.”
Mrs. Harris has been a dance teacher for 11 years and has been here at Timber Creek for four years teaching dance and directing the Violet Belles. “I never thought I would be a drill team director, yet here I am.”
“Ms. Rose and I always knew that one day she would want to move on and grow her career, so that’s what brought me here to Timber Creek.” Harris explained. Ms. Rose was Mrs. Harris’s drill team director at Fossil Ridge when Harris was a Sun Dancer. “That was always the end goal, we just didn’t know when it would happen. So, it’s been in the works all along.”
Now that Rose is an assistant principal, the time has come, and Harris is the new director of the Sky Dancers.
“The girls are working really hard. We’ve had a really positive start. So, I’m hopeful that continues and grows into more positivity this year.” Harris said. “We have a lot of talent this year, so it’s really cool to see the talent at such a large team.”
