On Saturday, Sept. 23, people come together to celebrate and honor the deaf at the Deaf Celebration Expo. The event will take place at Tarrant County College, and there will be both a day pass and a night pass available. The day pass will last from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m., where students will be able to experience a plethora of exhibits including hobbies, technology, education, and education concerning deaf culture. The night pass will be from 7:00 p.m to 11:00 p.m., where they can see multiple forms of entertainment, such as presenters singing their stories in American Sign Language.
“I plan to go and invite my classes,” Carla Berghult, ASL 2,3, and 4 teacher at Timber Creek, stated, “They are all fascinated.”
The expo is all about celebrating deaf heritage, which is also a great event to go to to learn more about ASL and the deaf. There are also volunteer opportunities for students.
“It is important to have access to communicate with the deaf,” said Berghult.
Everyone is welcome to attend to experience the expo, even if they do not know ASL.
“You will face a lot of deaf people, and knowing this language opens up access for a lot of deaf people,” Berghult communicated. “The deaf world is a small world.”
