The UIL Math Team will hold its first meeting Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16. in Ms. Dolecki’s room, N125 from 3:50 to 4:30. UIL Math Team is open to anyone with a variety of math skills and a love for the subject, the team also requires no fee to join.
The UIL Math Team is a competitive organization which strives to portray the extraordinary math genius of students. The team is divided into three separate categories, Calculator Application, General Math and Number Sense, each requiring unique talents from different individuals.
Calculator Application test student’s abilities to enter math equations into a calculator both efficiently and accurate. General Math is a test with a plethora of puzzling math questions and brain teasers to be solved with a calculator. Number Sense is a nerve wracking 10 minute test that requires students to do the work entirely in their heads.
Competitions are held at other high school or college campuses on Saturdays lasting a majority of the day as they also travel with the full UIL Academic and Debate teams.The team regularly attends three to four competitions a year competing with schools in and out of the district.
