With the team’s chemistry at an all time high, the Timber Creek Boys Varsity Baseball made history the weekend of May 3 and May 4 after winning the first round of the playoffs, and proceeding on to win the next weekend against Odessa High School in their third round. Becoming Bi-District Champions after Riley Sands gave the team a win 6-5 after a walkoff, and the team continuing their victory as they battled El Paso Coronado with a 3-0 victory in the third round, the Timber Creek Baseball team continues their victory in playoffs against Odessa High School.
“The team has done a fantastic job this season,” said junior Lance Barnett. “As coach Watson says, the next game is the most important. We need to focus on winning the next game and if we do that, we will be fine.”
Becoming Bi-District Champions as well as Area Champions, the season has served as a reminder that the baseball players are a powerful force, with the team gaining respect along with their titles as champions. Winning 3-0 against Coronado on Saturday, May 12, the team’s shutout victory served as just another reminder of these athletes’ strength.
“We’ve had really good team chemistry which is translating to our games and leading to wins,” said senior player Cesar Paz. “We are just focused on the game ahead of us. Our goal [for this season] was to win games, make playoffs and make a run for the state championship. We’ve all worked hard to…make it happen.”
Playing Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m., the team looks to faceoff against Odessa in the Regional Quarterfinals at McMurry University. With star senior players hoping to end their career well, and viable underclassmen making their way towards the top, the season has proved to be anything but ordinary.
“I’ve gained strength and confidence on the mound. Having a really good defense behind me has helped make that happen,” Paz commented. “The competition is just gonna get tougher from here and we have to be ready for it. We are just focused on the game ahead of us.”
