Timber Creeks’ morning announcements, TCTV, has a new experiment for the end of the year — their own channel.
Broadcasting students have put together a 24-hour live streaming test channel for Monday, May 21, 2018. The channel will stream pre-recorded live sports, news, and theatre broadcasts created by TCTV and Timber Creek Sports Network students this year.
“In total, our students have streamed over 100 hours of live content this year,” Broadcasting adviser Greg Janda said. “It’s incredible the amount and variety of content we’ve put together this year. We hope the 24-hour stream is a way to highlight everything and show how much we’ve accomplished.”
Included on the channel will be rebroadcasts of a football game, girls basketball game, The Kelley awards, a baseball game, live news from April 27, and many more pieces of content — included over 30 minutes created just for the stream.
Within that block of new content are previews for possible new programs to air on the channel in the 2018-19 school year.
“A big part of learning to be a broadcaster is to create a show, stick to a schedule, and work through production and release to an audience,” Janda said. “For students that want to be news, sports, or entertainment producers in their future careers, we want to give them an opportunity to actually pitch, develop, plan and produce real content for real viewers.”
Those viewers may come from a number of sources, as the channel will be streaming concurrently on multiple platforms, including YouTube Live, Twitch, and more. Janda doesn’t expect to be in the top charts, though.
“We’re really doing this whole project as a test for the future, whether we can actually continue to produce a 24-hour channel is a question we’re still asking,” Janda said.
And there’s one other question — will anyone watch?
“Who knows?” Janda said. “Even if we’re the only ones checking it, that might give us great information about our products. Guess we’ll see!”
