Twenty-nine art students qualified for state at the Region 11 VASE competition on Saturday, Feb. 9. A total of 35 art pieces from Timber Creek will join 72 from Keller ISD in San Marcos this coming April.

The Visual Arts Scholarship Event, or VASE, begins at the Regional level, which this year was held had Timber Creek High School. In order to qualify for state, artists have to present their artwork and complete a brief interview about the inspiration behind the piece. According to the Texas Art Education Association’s website, the artwork is evaluated on five categories: purpose, technique, personal expression, organization, and integration. Those who make top marks on their artwork and their interview advance to the state competition.
