Love helping others, and have a good work ethic? Interact club is searching for new members who enjoy serving the community. The first club meeting is Thursday, Sept. 12 after school in the Lecture Hall.
Not only do students get the chance to spread love to the community through volunteer work, but interact members are also given chances to earn green cord hours for graduation. Additionally, seniors can also earn an interact cord in recognition for the hard work they’ve done within the club.
Interact club partakes in all kinds of community service events, ranging from school gatherings to youth exchanges with local sponsors. One of their biggest events that happens each spring and fall is the Christ Haven Cleanup.
Christ Haven, a foster home based in a local Keller church, takes in children whose parents can’t currently take care of them. It allows parents to take their kids to a safe, loving space while they get back on their feet without going through the complications of the foster system. The Christ Haven Cleanup is an opportunity for members of the community to come together, tidy up, and prepare a space for children to temporarily stay.
“It’s such a rewarding experience. Other than hanging out with your friends, the fact that you get to keep a space for kids who can’t necessarily be taken care of at home,” Interact club president, Haley Salter said. “The adults that run it already do so much work, so it’s nice to kind of return the favor.”
