Storm Nicholas has created chaos across the Gulf and coastal cities. Houstonians were advised to stay indoors by city officials, and even though some Louisiana residents were recovering from Hurricane Ida they were told to “prepare for lots of rain.”

The slow moving storm dumped at least 20 inches of rain over just a few days. “More than 6 inches of rain has fallen in downtown Houston since Sunday.” the National Weather Service said on its website.

The heavy rain the storm brings could be compared to the Category 4 storm, Hurricane Harvey, that took the lives of 68 people in it’s wrath. Both storms, even though in different magnitudes, were both similar in the fact that the destruction they caused was immense. Ida’s intense rain, ruthless winds and heavy flash flooding destroyed the Gulf and coastal areas.

New Orleans residents had no idea how to get access to some of the emergency services popping up around the city. “How’re you going to the website when all the phones are cut off?” A resident said. “We don’t have any food. Hopefully the FEMA will come, but it’s getting real dangerous right now.”

The coastal cities hit by these storms have been victim to regular burglaries in stores like Family Dollar, and local drugstores. Some areas are definitely doing better than others but even the areas that are receiving help from FEMA and the Red Cross are still in bad shape nonetheless.
