With the 2021 season already underway, Timber Creek’s Volleyball teams are looking to explore new heights under the diligent leadership of head coach Melanie Mercer. Going into her third year here as the Head Coach, the former University of Texas-Tyler player looks to guide the Falcons in a new direction.
“Our goal every day is to compete. In our practice, in our games, compete” said Coach Mercer. “But our big goal this season is to make it to the playoffs.”
With the roster alone, this team is setting records. An astonishing 11 of 13 players are returning from playing varsity last season. One of those being senior and Yale-commit Halle Sherlock. In her final season in purple and gold, Sherlock is looking to shake up courts one last time.
“We have eleven of thirteen returning varsity players which is really great because it’s mostly the same team, so we can just continue getting better from where we left off last year.”
“So in every position, we are improving from last year,” said Sherlock.
Among the returning players is senior Megan Rosen. Rosen’s quick thinking and intelligence have allowed her to become a defensive star for The Falcons. Her hustle on the court is parallel to none, making her one to watch.
“We are really focusing on bringing an extremely high level of competition to each practice!” Rosen said.
Bringing a unique sense of veteran skill and teamwork to the court, this year’s roster is one that will leave a lasting impact. As Coach Mercer had to say
“I really hope that you all come out and watch us. We are going to upset some people and teams this year. I especially would like to welcome you all to our district opener on September 10th. It’s against Southlake, so we need a big crowd there. Everybody needs to get loud and watch us do some good things for a while. ” said Mercer.
