On Oct. 15, the Timber Creek Marching Band performed at the UIL Region 30 Marching Contest in Burleson, continuing their legacy of gaining all 1’s and coming home with yet another UIL sweepstakes plaque.

The results, however, seem to contradict with how the students personally felt about their performance. The band was ready to blow their audience away–little did they know that the wind would be wanting its job back. In the second part of their show entitled Con-chair-to, the chairs that served as their props and a critical visual element were knocked down by the gale.

“I just tried to keep going and not let it mess me up,” said sophomore mellophone player Isabel Aguilar. “It was hard to march with my plume messing up my hat. I think it wasn’t our best, but we made the most of what we had.”

Although the last two competitions that the band participated in this season were of equal importance, this contest has its own significance since it’s what determines whether the band will advance to Area or not. In other words, it’s formally the first step to achieving their ultimate goal: making State.

“We’re preparing by taking advantage of every rep we have, getting our minds to see the big picture with every detail,” said drumline captain BreAnn Barker. “Striving to define the standard of what being a part of the Timber Creek Band actually means on the practice field and during the real performance.”

Also advancing to Area and earning superior ratings this weekend were Fossil Ridge, Central, and Keller High School. All Keller ISD schools will be performing for a spot to compete in State on Oct. 29.
