Whether it is promposals or dancing the night away, prom is one of the most anticipated events for seniors. However in the 2016-2017 school year a dress code for prom has been enforced. This sanctioned addition to prom has sparked a large amount of controversy, because while there has always been a dress code, it has never been enforced to such an extent. If students are concerned with the appropriateness of their dress they may text a picture to the senior class remind where it will be approved by Mrs. Boehringer.

In comparison to the previous school year the prom dress code did not create as much of an altercation as this current school year, one reason being the current leadership positions of Principal Bartlett and Senior Class Advisor Boehringer were previously filled by others.

“I was surprised because I thought the dress code was very fair. Our dress code is more lenient than other Keller district high schools in the area. I do understand the kids getting upset because the dress code for homecoming and prom in previous years were not enforced, so it surprised students,” Boehringer shares.

As in reference to a recent Instagram account of students posting dresses whether they have been approved or not, Boehringer speaks on this matter.

“The Instagram account is student run. Those dresses have not necessarily been approved. Some of those dresses have been approved with the agreement that alterations will be added to the dress to make it school appropriate. Students are to send their pictures of their prom dress to that account for the sole purpose of no one else from TCHS buying the same one as them, so there are not duplicate dresses at prom,” said Boehringer.

There was a prom dress code meeting held on Feb. 16 which discussed what was appropriate and inappropriate. Bartlett and  Boehringer discussed the dress code guidelines that are as follows:

-Dresses and slits should be no shorter than mid thigh.

-Open backed dresses are allowed but not farther down than the small of ones back.

-Plunging necklines need to be covered with a nude backing.

Here is the remind to get dresses approved through Mrs.Boehringer:
