In a total of two minutes, $1,426.30 dollars was raised for the ShelterBox fundraiser during the March 9 “Miracle Minute” on TCTV.

The opportunity was made available by the Rotary Club of Keller, a sponsor of the Interact Club in Timber Creek. Melissa West, the Interact Club teacher sponsor shares how and why the ShelterBox fundraiser came about.

“Our Interact club wanted to support ShelterBox as it is a champion organization that supports the values and ambitions of our institutions,” said West.

Each ShelterBox that is made consists of the necessities that families may need if they are victims of natural disasters or humanitarian crises. Items such as blankets, pots and pans, and solar lights are included in the ShelterBox.

“This is something Keller ISD schools started last year, so this is our second time to do the fundraiser, and we look forward to making progress in the future and continuing our partnership with ShelterBox,” West shares.

Timber Creek raised $120 more than last year’s fundraiser. The teacher with the highest donations in 2017 was Señora Williams’ class with a grand total of $126.75. Second and third place came to a close total with Coach Lyons’ class raising $65 dollars and Ms. Ashcrafts’ class raising $64 dollars. West expresses her admiration towards Timber Creek.

“I am so proud of Timber Creek HS and am so overwhelmed by the generosity and support of our students and staff! We raised $1426.30, which is about $120 more than we raised last year, and we raised more than Central and Keller,” said West.
